What is the course about?
This course is designed to provide Intermediate and Advanced level Learners with an opportunity to develop and improve their oil painting skills and gain a broader understanding of this versatile medium.
Is a pre-enrolment interview or assessment required for this course?
What level is the course and do I require particular skills, experience or prior qualifications?
This course is suitable for learners who have some experience of working with oil paint. Not suitable for beginners.
What topics does the course cover?
Priming, preparing grounds, colour theory, mixing colour, developing skills in mixing observed colour, exploration of the various textures of oil paint, paint handling, brushwork, selection and composition.
How will I be taught and assessed?
Learners will receive feedback on progress from the tutor regularly. At the end of the term learners will assess individual progress and progression with the tutor.
Are there any other costs or equipment I need to get?
Some basic materials are provided. There will be a recommended amount of additional materials required for this course, advice will be given in the first class as to what and where to buy materials. Suggestions; pencil - 4B grade, rubber, pen, 1-inch ruler.
By the end of the course what should I be able to do?
Learners can progress on to a range of creative courses such as Portraiture and Life Painting.
What are the progression opportunities following this course?
Learners can go on to other creative arts courses such as life drawing and painting or portraiture. Level 2 or 3 Certificate in Drawing and Painting would be a good progression for learners wanting to develop a solid grounding in art and design. Additional courses in portraiture and life drawing, as well as a variety of other art courses such as oil painting and printmaking, would also be an option.
