What is the course about?

This course is designed for experienced and advanced learners who want to continue their investigations in drawing, painting and simple printmaking. You will be coached individually to explore and expand your personal interests and /or develop your portfolio of artworks. This could be to support an application for college or university, working towards and exhibition or simply to pursue and develop your own skills and knowledge in making art.

What level is the course and do I require particular skills, experience or prior qualifications?

We will want to see that you have made artworks at advanced level ( level 3 ) and that you have the experience and knowledge to devise individual goals and works towards their completion. We recommend that you have studied art courses or practiced art beyond intermediate level before you apply for this course. This may include the completion of an accredited, or non-accredited, course at level 3 (Advanced level) or equivalent.

What topics does the course cover?

As a starting point you could investigate a particular subject such as figure, landscape or abstraction etc... in which you will be introduced to the ideas and techniques of other artists to support the practical development of your own work. This course will offer technical and creative support covering a variety of to use drawing, painting and simple printmaking. In discussion with your tutor you will devise learning activities and goals will help you realise your individual goals. You will be working alongside the advanced students studying towards the level 3 certificate and you may participate in the group activities if you wish.

How will I be taught and assessed?

Tutor will offer individual coaching, demonstrations, guidance, advice, one to one tutorials and group discussions relating to the learners particular interest or subject. There will be group discussions and exploration of a range of artists, subjects and approaches.

Are there any other costs or equipment I need to get?

Basic Materials are included in the course fee. Should you individually require specialist items you may be asked to provide extra materials yourself, but you will be given advice and guidance on this by your tutor.

By the end of the course what should I be able to do?

Manipulate and develop practical art skills and techniques that will support the development of your own project/idea.Develop knowledge and reflective skills to critique your own work/project.Devise individual goal and projects and works towards their completion Create work that shows an individual and personal investigation of a project or interest.

What are the progression opportunities following this course?

You may wish to peruse more specialist non -accredited courses such as printmaking, life drawing or portraiture classes.
