What is the course about?
This qualification is suitable for any learner that is not quite ready for the full functional skills in Mathematics at level 2 or GCSE, whether you are progressing from a level 1 qualification or just have weaknesses in some areas, this course is designed to break down those elements into bite size pieces to help you build your confidence and understanding.

What level is the course and do I require particular skills, experience or prior qualifications?
The course is aimed at learners who are almost working at level 1 or slightly above but still have weaknesses in some aspects of their mathematical skills. Anyone not being referred internally must complete a college assessment to ensure they are placed on the right level.
What topics does the course cover?
You will primarily cover: understanding and using fractions, understanding length, weight and capacity, understanding and using percentages and understanding volume. The course tutor may vary the course content to meet the needs of the group.
How will I be taught and assessed?
You will be taught in class (although a degree of self study at home is also essential) and assessed through three formal tests that cover each element of the course. If you pass all three elements you will be awarded the Ascentis Extended Award in Mathematic Skill.
Are there any other costs or equipment I need to get?
Please come to class prepared to study. We recommend that you bring a calculator, compass, notebook and pens and have a folder to store any work provided

Evidence your understanding of the three key mathematical processes which are key to the successful completion of the functional skills qualification.
What are the progression opportunities following this course?
Successful completion will help support you progression to the Level 2 functional skills or level GCSE.
