What is the course about?
Please note: This is a year-long course. In term one and two, this course runs on Thursdays and Friday, 09.30-16.00. In term 3, it runs on Thursdays only, 09.30-16.00
This UAL accredited course is designed to progress further your creative and practical fashion design skills. Through research, skill-based workshops and experimentation with a range of techniques and materials, you will learn more advanced creative fashion techniques. The garments you create will be showcased in the end of year fashion show.
This qualification is designed to give you every possible chance to develop your skills, competencies and knowledge that are required to study at a higher level in fashion design and/or a successful future in the wider fashion industry.
This is a Level 3 course. You should have a Level 2 diploma qualification in fashion design or be able to prove that you have equivalent experience.
- A minimum level of Level 2 (or GCSE) in English is required for this course.
- You will also need to have good computer skills as there are regular digital assignments.
In terms 1 and 2 the tutor will guide you through class exercises and projects under these headings:
– The Creative Process
– Developing Creative Practice
You will be taught by a fashion specialist, with technician support and supervision. As the course progresses, and your creative awareness and skills increase, you will be able to work in a self-directed and independent way on your final major project, the outcome of which will be displayed at the end of the year fashion show.
You will be expected to produce digital portfolios of work for assessment and upload these online. Formal assessment will take place at stages throughout the course, and you will receive verbal and written feedback.

You will be able to respond to a brief, co-ordinating all aspects of time management and the creative process involved in realising that brief, including research, experimentation and visual communication through to 3D realisation – pattern cutting and construction of your intended fashion garment outcomes.
You will have the knowledge and skills to progress to higher education fashion courses to broaden your skills. Many of our learners have gone on to study at top London Universities. You could also pursue employment in the fashion and/or creative industries, whether for an employer or freelance.
