What is the course about?
This qualification has a duration of 12 weeks and is the purpose is to provide learners with sector awareness. It does this by introducing the knowledge and understanding in roles and issues relating to Cyber Security. The secondary purpose is to act as a stepping stone that will lead learners into studying Cyber Security at a higher level
We will also uncover the potential risks of oversharing, the importance of understanding data collection practices, and how to maintain control over your personal and professional identity in an increasingly digital landscape. Discussions will include how to avoid leaving a trail of vulnerable data while making responsible and informed choices when interacting online.>
Please note: this course is currently only available for Greater London residents.
Learners must be aged 19 or above. There are no specific entry requirements for the qualification, however a Level 1 or a Level 2 in IT would be advantageous.
To be awarded this qualification, learners are required to successfully complete all six mandatory units:
Introduction to Cyber Security
•Understand Terminology Used in Cyber Security
•Understand Legal and Ethical Aspects of Cyber Security
•Understand Common Threats to Cyber Security
•Understand Methods of Maintaining Cyber Security
•Working With Others in Cyber Security
You will be provided with online learning materials which covers all aspects of your course and you will be required to complete assessments for each of the units within the course and submit these by the deadline dates provided at induction. You will be allocated an assessor at the start of your course, and they will support you to ensure you have a successful outcome. IT skills will be developed throughout your course and basic English skills will be assessed and discussed on an ongoing basis.
The course is free if you meet the eligibility criteria. In order to be eligible for funding, you must be an ordinarily resident in England and be aged 19 or older on 31 August 2026. You will need internet access so that you can respond to email and a digital device that will enable you to type your answers into a web-based platform.
On successful completion of this course you will gain a Level 2 Certificate in the Principles of Cyber Security
