Maths at WAES

Maths is everywhere and often you don’t even know that you are doing it. You may be measuring ingredients for a recipe or working out distances on a map. Maths is part of our everyday lives, but for many people learning maths was difficult and left them feeling insecure about their ability and their skills in this area.

For many work opportunities, maths is also a requirement and low levels of achievement or lack of qualifications and prevent people from moving into better positions.

The government has recognised that this is an area that many adults need assistance with and launched the Multiply programme to help adults improve their numeracy skills. The London Multiply programme is supporting Londoners to get the numeracy confidence and skills they need to access good work or further learning and help them with the financial pressures that so many are facing.

It includes free maths courses with opportunities to gain qualifications, and build confidence in using numbers at work or in everyday life.

You can take take part in Multiply if you’re aged 19+ and don’t currently have maths GCSE at grade C/4 (or equivalent).

We offer courses for beginners and those who want to build on existing maths knowledge, including more advanced courses, such as GCSE and Level 2 Functional Skills.

You will need to visit a WAES centre to complete an initial assessment and then have a chat to one of our maths tutors to determine what level will be best for you. Or you could join a community maths course in the first instance and get back into the world of learning before embarking on more challenging courses.
