Posted: 11.06.2013
Staff, students and supporters of WAES gathered last month in Westminster for the 2013 Learner Awards ceremony to celebrate the commitment and contributions of Westminster’s top achieving adult learners.
With over 70 nominations across seven categories, all candidates were individually recognised and presented with a certificate by the Head of Service, Barbara Holm.
Award winners included Jassim Laftaly (pictured above) who was recognised for his progression to University following his Counselling course at WAES and ceramics student Maria Do Carmo Riezzo (featured alongside her work in this programme) for outstanding progress and achievement in her area of study.
The esteemed Learner of the Year award was presented to Rim Al-Enazy for exceptional contribution and efforts with her study.
This year the prestigious event was timed to coincide with the NIACE Adult Learners' Week, a celebration of lifelong learning. Neil Grimston, Chair of the WAES Board of Governors addressed the crowd in congratulating all learners for their efforts as well as praising the hard work of the organisation’s inspirational tutors.
Learners from the WAES DJ course entertained guests at an afterparty with their newly-acquired skills, rounding off an evening of celebration.
