International Women's Day themed Progression Week March 2023

Waes held it's first progression week of 2023 on March 6 to March 11. International Women's Day fell on the same week too!

International Women's Day takes place on March 8 every year, and is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women. The first International Women's Day took place over 100 years ago in 1911, and since then has grown into an international day of awareness which is celebrated in more than 100 countries across the world. This years theme was #EmbraceEquity

The week was filled with inspirational talks from leading women in their industries from WAES; Gail Isaac (Head of Apprenticeships and Professional Pathways), Candice Fanning (Digital Hub Co-ordinator), Palwash Kakar (ESOL Course Leader), Amy Dunkley (Sustainability Learning Co-Ordinator), Charlotte Wolf (Teaching, learning & Assessment Co-ordinator). They all gave an insight of the challenges they faced to get to the position they are in today, they provided useful information and guidance to help others going through the same problems on how to overcome them.

Furthermore there were CV drop in sessions with the Careers team and additional support from the National Careers Service Jessica Tang (Lead National Careers Advisor) to help learners decide which career path they would like to follow after completing their course. Ravensbourne University Hattie Moore joined WAES on Microsoft Teams and spoke about how to build a creative portfolio.

Shree Datta (Health Manager) delivered a presentation on menopause, a conversation rarely spoken about amongst different communities. She highlighted symptoms of menopause, provided advice and figures followed by a Q&A session.

Later in the week 2 sessions of photography workshops were organised by Dominic Harris (Head of Creative Industries) which was a practical session for learners. They had the opportunity to take selfies of one another under professional studio lighting. Many of our staff members including Arinola Edeh (Principal and Head of Service) joined in on the fun! Take a look at the photos below.
