Mayor's Skills Academies Quality Mark for Digital and Construction

We are delighted to announce that Westminster Adult Education Service has been awarded a Mayor’s Skills Academies Quality Mark for its provision within the Digital and Construction sectors.

This is an innovative new partnership of training providers, digital employers, local authorities and third sector organisations aiming to get Londoners into good, well-paid work in the digital sector.

Find out more about today's announcements about the Mayor's Skills Academies Programme.

The Westminster Digital Hub will encompass the City of Westminster, the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea, Wandsworth and Camden, and will focus on a wide range of digital occupations including web design and development, UX user experience design, digital project management and software development.

Discussing today's launch, Arinola Edeh, the Principal and Director of Service at WAES, said:

We are excited and delighted to be part of the Mayor’s Skills Academies Programme and are looking forward to working with all our partners to ensure that our Digital Hub creates opportunities and opens doors to careers in the digital sector. We have created a unique partnership, so that our local residents, particularly those who are underrepresented and often get overlooked, are well supported to access sustainable careers in the digital sector and can truly be a part of the technological revolution.

By highlighting routes into and career pathways within each sector the Westminster Digital Hub will help under-represented groups to navigate and overcome barriers to entry, with learners benefitting from a wraparound approach to help them get into good work.

The partnership will also help to reduce the digital skills gap in London, with employers benefitting from a pipeline of eager potential recruits for their hard-to-fill vacancies and addressing the structural barriers to engagement, recruitment, retention and progression for under-represented groups in their industry and workforce.

Prior to the launch of the Westminster Digital Hub, WAES has already been running its AWS re/Start programme on cloud computing since November, with the first cohort recently graduating in a celebration at Westminster City Hall.
