Come along to our Summer Open day at the WAES Lisson Grove Centre and get a taste of the adult courses we offer at Westminster Adult Education Service, one of the UK's largest adult colleges.
With over 1,000 courses- with daytime, evening and weekend options available for many- the WAES Summer Open Day is the perfect opportunity for you to try your hand at one or more of our subjects!
Our one-off taster sessions mean that you can try something for nothing- whether it be drawing or business administration, these short adult courses are all you need to steer you in the right direction for your next study.

Taster courses from 10am
10:00 – 15:00Floristry - You are invited into a lesson to observe or try your hand at a table arrangement.
10:30 – 12:00 Introduction to Teaching Assistance - Learn to safeguard the welfare of children and young people with this fantastic taster to the knowledge and skills required when working in school environments.
11:00 – 12:00 Classic Afternoon Tea Learn the art of preparing the most quintessentially English treat - afternoon tea with cucumber sandwiches.
11:00 - 13:00Ceramics and pottery open studio - visit our modern pottery workshop and see our learners and tutor in action!
11:00- 15:30Glass-making - demonstrating model making techniques
11:15 – 12:15 Introduction to Counselling - Life can be stressful, and sometimes we need someone to talk to. This taster goes through the basics of being a good listener and how these skills can help communication.

12:00 – 13:30 Starting a Career in the Business Sector – Get to grips with the crucial administrative, customer service and IT skills needed to get ahead in business.
12:00 - 14:00 Improve your IT skills - Learn the joy of operating a computer and various software in a professional enviroment
12:00 - 14:00Studio photography - an opportunity to learn different techniques in the studio, for modelling or still life. We recommend bringing your DSLR camera for this short course.
12:00 – 14:00 Introduction to Health and Social Care - Exploring the Body - Studying and working in the health and social care sector is a rewarding choice. If you would like to know more about what is involved, come and join our taster course. You’ll explore how the body works with some of the routine measurements that are made in the profession.
12:30 – 14:00Learning through Play - Play can be educational as well as fun. If you’d like to develop your parenting and caring skills, including how to work with those with special educational needs or where English is an additional language, then this is the taster for you.
13:00 - 15:00 Smokey eyes make-up - come along, try our facilities and meet expert tutors - learn the smokey eyes look for day or evening.
13:00 – 14:00Creating Canapes - Create fabulous but hassle free canapes in our kitchen that you can make at home.
13:00 – 14:15Access to Higher Education - What to expect - Have you ever wondered what it might be like to study at University? Our taster course will help you to explore the skills you’ll need to succeed at higher education.
Taster courses from 2pm
14:00 - 15:00Digital photography - A snappy one-hour taster course - enhance your photography skills. Get the most out of your digital camera and begin to compose the photographs you've always wanted! We recommend bringing your DSLR camera for this short course.
14:00 -15:30 Introduction to Caring for Children and Young People - Get to know the skills required when working in an Early Years environment with this useful introduction to safeguarding the welfare of children and young people.
14:15 – 15:15 Access to Higher Education - What to expect - Have you ever wondered what it might be like to study at University? Our taster course will help you to explore the skills you’ll need to succeed at higher education.
15:00 – 16:00Delicious Dim Sum - The celebrated Cantonese dish, ideal for sharing with friends. Join in as we cook a Chinese feast.
