Inclusive Pathways Awards 2024

The WAES Inclusive Pathways Awards, formerly known as the Diversity and Inclusion Awards, is an annual summer event celebrating learners from our Inclusive Pathways department as the academic year draws to a close. This year the ceremony took place at our Lisson Grove centre on Friday 21 June.

The ceremony began with an introduction from Sue Jenkins, Interim Inclusive Pathways Coordinator, and a warm welcome from our Principal, Arinola Edeh. We were also delighted to welcome the Lord Mayor of Westminster, Cllr Robert Rigby, as well as Ayo Akande, Interim Assistant Director of Skills and Employment at the Greater London Authority.

Learners were commended for their creative originality, positive attitude to learning, hard work and dedication throughout the year, with each receiving a certificate of achievement, presented by the Lord Mayor. Certain learners also received a second certificate of recognition, for truly going above and beyond over the year.

To conclude the presentation of certificates, we had the overall Inclusive Pathways Learner of the Year. This year there were two winners: Thomas Cheung, who recently secured an apprenticeship with Network Rail, and Joanne Diab, who could not attend but will receive her award at another ceremony before the end of term.

The cheerful atmosphere filled the room, with learners cheering each other on, and also getting to view displays showcasing their artwork ranging from handmade arts and crafts to 2D and 3D digital animations, as well as photos from classes and events since September, including employability pop-up shows. The celebration ended with refreshments prepared by the learners and their tutor Lara in our cookery room, including pizza, fruit and even ice cream!

The Inclusive Pathways programme is specially designed for those with a range learning difficulties and disabilities, encouraging employability and independent living and broadening social and economic horizons.
