Dunia Tazkarji

Learner Governor

Dunia has worked as an unqualified teacher abroad, teaching English and Swedish to refugee children and children who had recently moved to Sweden. She is Westminster resident with family ties to the Lisson Grove area.

She has been involved as a volunteer and a learner representative with ESOL learners as well as learners from the Basic Skills department. She believes adult education has changed each and every one of those learners’ lives, especially mothers – she became a governor to voice those learners’ thoughts and needs.

Dunia’s experience working in primary schools and volunteering with adult learners has strengthened her communication and teamwork skills. She is confident collaborating with staff, governors and fellow learners, and enjoys working as part of a team to achieve positive outcomes for our learning community. She plans to be a link governor with the Professional Pathways and ESOL learners, ensuring their voices are heard and their experiences represented at governance level.

In her spare time, she enjoys volunteering and learning new languages. The course Dunia would most recommend to prospective learners is the Level 3 Diploma in Supporting Teaching and Learning.
