This is a beginner Maths course. You do not need any previous qualifications or maths experience. Our courses are open to all adults, and you will be assessed at your interview so we can place you in the level that suits your current skills and learning needs.
The course focuses on practical maths used in everyday life, such as understanding numbers, basic calculations, money skills, measures, time and simple problem solving.
You will learn in person with an experienced tutor in a welcoming and supportive classroom setting. Classes take place in convenient community locations such as your local library, a neighbourhood community centre, or a nearby WAES centre, making it easy to learn close to home.There is no formal exam attached to this course. Instead, your progress will be supported through group activities, practical exercises and informal checks so you can build confidence at your own pace.
This is a free community learning course. No additional costs or equipment are required.
By the end of the course, you will be able to understand and solve basic to intermediate maths problems and use your maths skills confidently in everyday situations such as budgeting, shopping and making informed decisions. You will develop the ability to choose and apply different Maths strategies to tackle a range of practical problems. Most importantly, you will feel more confident using numbers at home, at work and in your community.
After completing this course, you may choose to progress to another community skills course such as ESOL, Digital Skills or Green Skills. You can also register for a Maths qualification course if you would like to continue developing your skills and work toward a recognised certificate.
