What is the course about?
For Greater London residents, these courses can be funded if they earn less than the London Living Wage or otherwise do not already have a Level 3 qualification, alongside the standard residency requirements.
This qualification aims to:
Focus on the study of the practices within cyber security
Offer breadth and depth of study, incorporating a key core of knowledge
Provide opportunities to acquire a number of practical skills.
The objective of this qualification is to: provide the learner with an opportunity to develop knowledge and skills relating to cyber security practices
The course is 25 weeks in length
An interview and English initial Assessment is required at the pre-enrolment stage. There are no specific recommended prior learning requirements for this qualification, however, learners may find it helpful if they’ve already achieved a Level 2 qualification in a related subject. You will need to know how to use and have access to a device such as; a computer, laptop or tablet due to the delivery of the course being online.
In this course, you are required to complete the 6 mandatory units:
Unit 1: Understanding cyber security principles
Unit 2: Threat intelligence in cyber security
Unit 3: Cyber security training, threats and controls
Unit 4: Cyber security incident response
Unit 5: Understand legislation and ethical conduct within cyber security
Unit 6: Professional skills and behaviours for cyber security
You will be provided with online learning materials which covers all aspects of your course and you will be required to complete assessments for each of the units within the course and submit these by the deadline dates provided at induction. You will be allocated an assessor at the start of your course, and they will support you to ensure you have a successful outcome. IT skills will be developed throughout your course and basic English skills will be assessed and discussed on an ongoing basis.
Are there any other costs or equipment I need to get?The course is free if you meet the eligibility criteria. You must be a UK resident or have lived in the UK for 3 years or more and be aged 19 or older on 31 August 2025. You will need internet access so that you can respond to email and a digital device that will enable you to type your answers into a web-based platform.
The learner will gain an understanding of:
• Cyber security and the consequences and implications of inadequate cyber security.
• Threat intelligence, Open-Source Intelligence, and the importance of using reliable sources of information. They will understand threat models and the effects of malicious software.
• Cyber Security incident response plan and checklist. They will also cover the knowledge required to be able to develop an incident post-mortem report.
• The legislation surrounding cyber security. They will understand international law relating to cyber security and the importance of information security standards, moving onto gaining an understanding of ethical conduct within cyber security.
Learners who achieve this qualification could progress to:
• Level 4 Diploma in Cyber Security
• Level 4 Certificate for IT Professionals
• Level 4 Certificate in Information and Cyber Security Foundations
• Level 4 Certificate in Cyber Security and Intrusion for Business
