What is the course about?
This VTCT Entry Level Certificate in Hair and Beauty Skills will enable you to perform hair and beauty skills. This qualification will introduce you to practical hair and beauty skills and techniques involved in creating a total look; via the unit called Create your own hair and beauty image. You will cover a range of techniques which will enable you to achieve a total look.Also included, care and hygiene in the salon and communication skills. All units in this qualification have been designed as a foundation for further study both in the hair and beauty sector and more broadly. You will develop foundation knowledge of the hair and beauty sector and use this as a basis for further learning at Level 1. This qualification will enable learners to develop a broad range of practical hair and beauty skills and techniques involved in creating a total look; via the mandatory unit, Create your own hair and beauty image. This is a short, taster course into the sector.
This is an Entry 3 Beginners Course, so you do not need any previous hair or make-up experience. You are required to have Entry Level 3 English and Maths and basic IT skills.
In this course you will gain a general introduction to the Hair and Beauty sector covering Health and Safety in a salon environment, for employers, employees and clients. You will also learn about hairstyling and how to prepare to out carry some basic plaiting and twisting hairstyles.
The course will be taught through a blend of practical work, demonstrations and theory classes delivered on site in the college salon. You will build a portfolio of evidence which will be assessed in order to demonstrate your competence and gain your qualification. You will need access to reliable internet and the use of a PC or laptop in order to attend the online sessions.
Products and tools are provided. You will be expected to bring a pen and note paper to each class.
You will have learnt about the importance of Health and Safety in the industry and how to work safely and hygienically in the salon. You will be able to prepare the skin and client for a basic consultation and either makeup or hairstyling. You will be able to carry out basic hairstyles with plaits and twists.
Upon successful completion of this course you can progress onto Level 1 course in Make-up and Media Make-up if your level of English is at the right level.The level of English required to move onto Level 1 Hair and Make-up is is Entry 3 Functional Skills
