What is the course about?
This course will cover all the basic preparation and construction processes - pinching, coiling, slab building, wheel-throwing, press-moulding, surface decoration and glazing.Tutor: Tana West
Suitable for all levels, no prior knowledge of pottery is required to attend this course. The course is ideal for beginners, or those who have some basic understanding of ceramic processes and would like to work more independently.
Please note: This course will include an introduction to wheel throwing for beginners. For those with more throwing experience, we can support learners who wish to work more independently, although tutors on this course are specialists in hand building, sculptural ceramics , surface decoration, and glazing.
Learners will receive feedback on progress from the tutor on a regular basis. At the end of the course learners will assess their individual progress and progression with the tutor.
Although decoration and glaze materials are included, we do make a charge (priced per kilo) for the clay used before the first firing.
By the end of the course learners will be able to independently using a range of construction techniques and enhance completed work with surface decoration and/or glazing.
You can develop your skills further on one of our specialist ceramics short courses in the daytime or evening, or take an accredited course starting in September.
