Green Skills Innovation Centre

Westminster Adult Education Service is delighted to launch the Green Skills Innovation Centre at our Lisson Grove centre, as part of a Mayor of London and Westminster City Council effort to lead the UK’s transition to Net Zero. Courses began in the centre from September 2025 and it was officially opened on 2 December 2025 by Cllr Geoff Barraclough, Cabinet Member for Planning and Economic Development at Westminster City Council, alongside Howard Dawber OBE, Deputy Mayor of London for Business and Growth.

Courses

We are offering a range of exciting courses, specialising in emerging green technologies, to support a greener way to develop awareness and careers.

About the Green Skills Innovation Centre

This brand new facility, the Green Skills Innovation Centre will play a critical role in the Mayor of London’s and Westminster’s ambitions to reach Net Zero carbon as early as 2038 and UK-wide by 2050. The centre will house the latest green technology equipment for communities, businesses and individuals to experience and share the knowledge and skills which will place Westminster at the forefront of emerging technologies.

The centre has been co-funded by Westminster City Council, the Mayor of London, and London’s Local Skills Improvement Fund via the Bridge Central London Skills Partnership. Construction was completed by Logan Construction with architectural and design support from TPM Studio.

Whether you are a business looking to prepare your workforce for the opportunities and challenges presented by the global transition to a carbon neutral economy, or you’re looking for a way into working in this sector, the Green Skills Innovation Centre is your one-stop campus to support the community of Westminster to become a carbon zero city.

The centre builds upon the success of the Green Live Learning Lab at WAES, which continues to raise awareness of green issues in the local Westminster community, increasing residents’ understanding of the practical impacts as homes and neighbourhoods are retrofitted with low-carbon technology.

You can view a selection of videos about the Green Skills Innovation Centre project in the YouTube playlist below.

Facilities

The centre includes an ‘immersive classroom’ for learners to take part in simulated practical activities using our AI goggles to show how the technology is practically used in homes.

Alongside this is a practical learning lab where users can gain hands-on experience using equipment such as solar panels, ground source and air source heat pumps, electric vehicle rigs, wind turbine rig, solar hot water and more.

WAES Learner Testimonials

Life is changing with all its new technology. For me, we must learn how to adapt and learn how to save energy and money, how to take care of the environment; it’s where we live, it gives us water, food, clean air and space for recreation. All are important for our health.

To know what they’re doing around where I live is important as well. If you don’t know, you don’t get to appreciate where you live. After this you feel so proud.
