Volunteer Training & Employability

In Community Learning, we offer various FREE training to support volunteers.

Diversity and Communication Training

Whether you want to become a better volunteer or already work with diverse people, these workshops offer you a chance to hone your people skills by improving your communication and intercultural skills.

Next Training dates

  • Thursday 9 May 2024
  • Thursday 11 July 2024

Each session comprises the following sections:

  • 9.30am-11.00am: Active listening for effective communication 9.30am-11.00am
  • 11.15am-12.45pm: Communicate better with speakers of English as a Second Language (ESOL)
  • 1.30pm-2.45pm: Intercultural Skills – Volunteering and working in a super-diverse City
  • 3.00pm-4.30pm: Volunteering with Refugees and Asylum seekers

You can enrol by contacting us at communitylearning@waes.ac.uk or coming along to our Lisson Grove centre on Tuesdays 10am-11am during term time – just ask for the Community Team.

An Introduction to Volunteering in Westminster

This workshop is delivered each term by WAES at Grand Junction in partnership with One Westminster and covers the many benefits of volunteering.

It includes details of current volunteering opportunities with organisations in Westminster, as well as additional support for people who live, work, or study in Westminster to help them find their ideal volunteer role.

Volunteer roles available include museums, dog-walking companions, shoppers, events, befriending, hospitals, admin support, gardening, charity shops, drivers, IT support and more.
