What is the course about?
This qualification will develop the knowledge and awareness of the types of provision in the Health, Social Care and Children’s and Young People’s sectors. It includes the roles played by workers, from principles and values through to health and safety and working with others. There is the option to take units in more specialised areas such as learning disability, child development or mental health.The qualification:• is aimed at learners who wish to develop an understanding of these settings before deciding whether working in the sector is for them• allows learners to gain the knowledge, understanding and skills required for employment and/or career progression in the sectors• allows learners to tailor their learning to their interests through the provision of a broad range of optional units• provides opportunities for the development of transferable skills• supports progression to Level 2 qualifications in health, social care or children's settings• provides learners with the opportunity to progress to employment, in due course, in a range of job roles in the care sectors.In addition you will complete an English for Health and Social care element alongside the main qualification.
This is a Level 1 course, therefore, learners will need to have Entry Level 3 Functional skills in English and working towards Level 1, to undertake this qualification. Additionally, you should have at least basic digital IT skills.
Introductory Awareness of Person-Centred Support in Health, Social Care and Children's and Young People's Settings Understand the Principles and Values in Health and Social Care (Adults and Children and Young People), Early Years and Childcare Introductory Awareness of Equality and Inclusion in Health, Social Care and Children's and Young People's SettingsAwareness of Protection and Safeguarding in Health and Social Care (Adults and Children and Young People), Early Years and Childcare Introduction to Communication in Health and Social Care (Adults and Children and Young People), Early Years and Childcare Introductory Awareness of Health and Safety in Health, Social Care and Children's and Young People's Settings.In the English for health and social care element, you will look at various 'verbs and their meanings to support you when answering your assignments. You will get an opportunity to develop communication and presentation skills.
You will be expected to have your own computer or laptop and a reliable source of internet. The course is an e-portfolio course, where you will study the units and build a portfolio of evidence along with your tutor. You will be expected to attend each session in college when appropriate and meet deadlines for homework submissions.In terms of the English element of the course you will complete worksheets, presentations, quizzes and save them as evidence.
Learners on a low income or in receipt of applicable benefits will not be required to pay a fee. We may also be able to provide a laptop*. You will need regular access to a computer or laptop and reliable internet service to complete this course. Once enrolled, learners will be able to download a free copy of Microsoft Office and will be given access to Microsoft office 365. There is a one off fee of £45 for One file and photo-copy.
By the end of the course, you will have gained the knowledge and understanding you need to make an informed choice about whether working with children and young people is right for you.This course will support you in preparing for your ‘next steps’ either in training or moving towards work. You could work towards a career in adult health and social care in a supervised job role. You will be able to progress on to the Level 2 qualification either in childcare or Adult Health and Social care.
