What is the course about?
This evening ceramics course introduces the basic handbuilding and wheel throwing techniques through practical demonstration and guidance. Learners will also gain skills in glazing.Please note: we have courses running on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday evenings every term. Suitable for all levels, no prior knowledge of pottery is required to attend this course. The course is ideal for beginners or for those who have some basic understanding of ceramic processes and would like to work more independently.
Handbuilding techniques such as coiling, slab-building and press-moulding. Wheel-throwing techniques such as centering, cylinders and bowls.
Learners will receive feedback on progress from the tutor on a regular basis. At the end of the course learners will assess their individual progress and progression with the tutor.
Although decoration and glaze materials are included, we do make a charge (priced per kilo) for the clay used before the first firing only.
By the end of the course learners will be able to use basic handbuilding and wheel throwing techniques, and enhance completed work with glazing.
This course will enable learners to progress onto other evening class courses or higher level courses which will be discussed at the end of the course with the tutor.
