What is the course about?
The content of this programme has been designed to provide learners with an understanding of the knowledge and skills needed when working directly with children and young people in school or college environment with Specific Learning Difficulties. Within this course we have also embedded a Level 1 in Mental Health Awareness.
As the highest level of this programme is a Level 2, you will need to hold GCSE English grade C or above, or a Level 1 Functional skills English, to complete this course, certificates will need to be seen. You will also need basic ICT skills as all work will be submitted via an online portal.
Level 2 Certificate in Understanding Specific Learning Difficulties - There are 5 mandatory units which learners need to complete. Understand Specific Learning Difficulties, Understand the effects of Specific Learning Difficulties, Understand the diagnosis of Specific Learning Difficulties, Understanding supporting individuals with Specific Learning Difficulties, Understand the context of Specific Learning Difficulties.Level 1 Mental health awareness consists of one unit - Develop awareness of mental health
This course is a mixture of online learning with some classroom activities . You will be assessed by producing an e-portfolio of evidence that proves your ability and competence to work with children. You will also be assessed on your competency through written assignments which will be marked by an experienced and qualified assessor.
Learners on a low income or in receipt of applicable benefits will not be required to pay a fee. You will need regular access to a computer or laptop and reliable internet service to complete this course. Once enrolled, learners will be able to download a free copy of Microsoft Office and will be given access to Microsoft office 365.
Upon completion you will be able to work in roles that support pupils’ learning in primary, secondary or special schools, as well as colleges.
This qualification can lead to employment as a Teachers assistant and/or opportunities to progress to a Level 3 Diploma in Supporting Teaching and Learning.
