What is the course about?
The content of the course has been designed to provide learners with an understanding of the knowledge and skills needed when working directly with children and young people in school or college environments.
This is a Level 2 course. Learners need to have a minimum of functional skills Level 1 English and Functional skills level 1 Maths. Evidence of your certificates for your English will need to be seen. Additionally, you should have at least basic digital IT skills. You will need to have an Initial Assessment followed by an interview to assess your full suitability for the course. If you do not hold GCSE English grade C or above, or a Level 1 Functional skills English, you will need to attend the English class attached to this programme. In addition you will need to secure a placement where you can attend once a week throughout the duration of the course in a school or college environment.
The Level 2 Certificate in Supporting Teaching and Learning has been designed to provide learners with an understanding of the knowledge and skills needed when working directly with children and young people in school or college environments. It covers a wide range of areas including children and young people’s development, supporting children and young people’s positive behaviour and communication and professional relationships.This programme has a total of eleven mandatory units to be completed.
This course is a mixture of online learning with some classroom activities . You will gain the knowledge by attending the college and then apply the skills in placement each week. You will be assessed by producing an e-portfolio of evidence that proves your ability and competence to work with children. You will also be assessed on your competency in supporting children by having direct observations and professional discussions which will be carried out by an experienced and qualified assessor.
Learners on a low income or in receipt of applicable benefits will not be required to pay a fee. You will need regular access to a computer or laptop and reliable internet service to complete this course. Once enrolled, learners will be able to download a free copy of Microsoft Office and will be given access to Microsoft office 365.
Upon completion you will be able to work in roles that support pupils’ learning in primary, secondary or special schools, as well as colleges.
This qualification can lead to employment as a Teachers assistant and/or opportunities to progress to a Level 3 Diploma in Supporting Teaching and Learning.
