WAES Learner Awards 2024

The Westminster Adult Education Service (WAES) Learner Awards took place at the Lord Mayor’s Parlour in Westminster City Hall. This significant event, held in two ceremonies – one in the morning and the other in the afternoon – honoured the remarkable achievements of learners across various disciplines.

The awards celebrated excellence in Apprenticeships, Professional Pathways, Creative Industries, Community and Cultural Learning, ESOL, Basic Skills, and Digital. Each category recognised outstanding learners with ‘Highly Commended’ and ‘Learner of the Year’ nominations, alongside general achievement certificates.

Both ceremonies began with a warm welcome from Arinola Edeh, the Principal of WAES. The presence of distinguished guests added to the event’s special atmosphere. Notable attendees included Ayo Akande, Assistant Director from the Greater London Authority; Jonathan Ward, Head of Partnerships at Mindful Education; Debbie Jackson, Executive Director of REP Westminster; WAES Governor Carolyn Keen; and Councillor Angela Piddock. These guests participated in the formal presentation of certificates, adding a touch of grandeur to the proceedings.

Throughout the day, inspiring speeches were delivered by Heads of Departments and Tutors, highlighting the dedication and hard work of the learners. Learners were also given the opportunity to share their personal WAES journeys and express gratitude to their tutors for their unwavering support and guidance.

The event concluded with group photos and a celebration session together over refreshments whilst admiring the Flower arrangement on display, created by our Level 2 Floristry Learners.
