WAES shortlisted as 2025 Family Learning Awards finalist

The Family Learning Awards, organised by the lifelong learning initiative Campaign for Learning and the National Centre for Family Learning, celebrate imaginative, innovative and engaging initiatives across the UK that make a real difference to families and their communities.

Organisations reaching the final of this year’s Family Learning Awards have been announced and we are pleased to have been shortlisted for the Family Learning Innovation Award for our Green Live Learning Lab Project. This award recognises innovative approaches to family learning, which address issues and challenges, solve problems, or create opportunities for family learning.

The Family Learning Awards are an annual celebration of intergenerational learning. They recognise organisations that have used new approaches and collaborations in the past year to create inclusive learning opportunities for families.

“Developing our community progression map has been a transformative journey, leading to the creation of the Green Live Learning Lab. This project has empowered learners to engage with sustainability through hands-on experiences alongside the council’s sustainability experts, equipping them with valuable skills and inspiring real change. I am grateful for the creativity and commitment of our dedicated team and for the enthusiasm of our learners, who bring fresh ideas and energy to every session. Seeing participants grow in confidence and apply their knowledge to real-world challenges reinforces the impact of this initiative. To be acknowledged for innovation reaffirms our belief that education is a powerful tool for driving sustainability. Thank you to Campaign for Learning, we look forward to building on our work and expanding our reach.” – Sabirah Ali, Head of Community and Cultural Learning at WAES

In 2025, the four categories of awards acknowledge family learning projects working with children in the early years, organisations delivering innovative approaches, activities related to health and wellbeing, and initiatives involving wellbeing, and initiatives involving science, technology, engineering, or mathematics (STEM).

Miranda Baxter, Deputy Director, Campaign for Learning said:

“Family learning is about creating rich learning experiences and stronger relationships that transform thinking, boost skills and create a lifelong culture of learning. Every applicant has demonstrated a positive impact on their community. They have worked with families in creative and responsive ways in which the families were co-creators and valued as equal learning partners.”

The winners of the Family Learning Awards will be announced on 12 June 2025. For more details on the award categories and the shortlisted organisations, visit: www.nationalcentreforfamilylearning.org/family-learning-awards
