What is the course about?
The City and Guilds Level 2 Technical in Floristry is an intensive, two day a week, course designed for you if you are looking to start a career within the floristry industry.Through this qualification you will learn about different flowers and plants and how to look after them. You will also learn that there is more to floristry than flowers and that for florists to be successful, they need to understand their tools, environment and the finishing touches that make a difference. With this, you will develop an understanding of design principles and the skills needed to apply these to the design and creation of floristry products. You will gain an understanding of how floristry business operate and develop skills needed to interact with customers and identify their needs.
This course is designed and funded for those who wish to study floristry at a commercial level and offers progression from our Floristry Foundation course. As part of the course you will need to complete 150 hrs of work experience (on average an additional day per week), which will be valuable for finding future work opportunities in this competitive industry.
All applicants must have:
- An interview and assessment to confirm that the course is suitable for them.
- English and maths at Level 1 or GCSE Grade 3/D and above.
- Good IT skills at level 1 or above.
- Evidence of 100 hours of floristry training (course or work experience) in the last 2 years, with a portfolio of work.

There is a compulsory 150 hours of work experience which you will need to do on an additional day per week over the year.
The tutor will use observation, discussion, individual tutorials and targeted tasks with verbal and written feedback..
You will work in both digital and non-digital formats and be expected to digitally record your work, upload it online and produce a digital or e-portfolio of work for assessment.
The qualification consists of a 40% written exam, a 60% synoptic exam, and additional exam in Health and Safety for the land-based industries, and a compulsory 150 hours of work experience.
Other costs include an investment in your time to complete self-directed study outside of the tutor-led activities, around 6-8 hours per week.
