What is the course about?
The course provides a comprehensive introduction to advanced networking and cybersecurity practices, giving learners the knowledge and skills needed to progress into technical roles or further study. You will explore how networks are designed, managed and secured, examine common threats and vulnerabilities, and develop practical skills in ethical hacking techniques. The course also covers project management within networking and cybersecurity contexts, helping you plan, deliver and evaluate technical projects effectively.
This is a Level 3 course designed for learners who already have a solid foundation in IT and a strong interest in developing advanced networking and cybersecurity skills. You should feel confident using digital technologies and be ready to build on previous Level 2 study or equivalent experience. The course is suitable for those looking to strengthen their technical knowledge in preparation for employment or progression to Level 4 study.
The course covers a wide range of advanced networking and cybersecurity topics. You will develop an understanding of cyber security principles, explore threat intelligence and learn how to identify and assess network vulnerabilities. The course also includes practical cyber security testing and ethical hacking techniques, alongside studying incident response processes and the legislation and ethical conduct that underpin professional practice. In addition, you will build the professional skills and behaviours required for working within the cybersecurity sector.
You will be taught in the classroom through tutor led sessions, practical networking and cybersecurity activities, and guided project work. Each of the six mandatory units is assessed through a formal assignment, supported by practical tasks and observed activities where you will demonstrate your technical skills and understanding.
Learners on a low income or in receipt of applicable benefits will not be required to pay a fee. You will need regular access to a computer or laptop and reliable internet service to complete this course. Once enrolled, learners will be able to download a free copy of Microsoft Office and will be given access to Microsoft office 365.
By the end of the course, you will be able to apply advanced knowledge of networking and cybersecurity principles, identify and assess threats and vulnerabilities, and carry out practical cyber security testing and ethical hacking activities. You will also be equipped with the professional skills needed to progress into further or higher education or pursue employment in a related technical field.
Learners can progress to entry roles in IT or undertake further study at level 3 and above both vocational and apprenticeships.
