What is the course about?
Learn how to design and build a website to a basic level and understand how the web works. This course will introduce you to WordPress for building professional quality websites.
This is a Level 1 course aimed at beginners with a keen interest in the subject.
All applicants must have:
- An interview and assessment to confirm that the course is suitable for them.
- English and maths at Entry 3 or equivalent. If you wish to move on to a Level 2 course, you will be advised to study Functional Skills, Level 1 English alongside this course.
- Good IT skills at level 1 or above.
- Create a WordPress website
- Manage, update and improve an existing WordPress website
- Use WordPress to manage your website content
- Integrate social media content into your WordPress website
- Promote your website
- Manage comments
- Understand and use WordPress themes, plugins and widgets
If you’re looking for an easy tool that will help you to build your own website or blog without having to learn how to code, you’ll love WordPress.
The course will be blended Learning with a combination of face-to-face studio practical skills, online learning, plus directed study time. The tutor will guide you through class exercises and a set project. There is no formal examination. You will be assessed on the work you produce for your project and your course work which you must hand-in on time.
Other costs include an investment in your time to complete self-directed study outside of the tutor led activities, around 4-6 hours per week.
You will be able to create a small website with several linked pages, make interactive buttons, a banner and know how to upload to the web. You will know how to use an image editor such as Photoshop to optimise images for the web.
To progress on to a choice of Level 2 Digital, Computing and Coding courses at WAES, or the Level 2 UAL Diploma in Graphic Design:
- Learners must be working at Level 1 English and maths.
- Good IT skills at level 1 or above.
- Have good levels of punctuality and attendance
- Have produced a portfolio of work in the subject area.
