Cllr Maggie Carman

Westminster City Council Nominee Governor

Maggie Carman had a career as a Lecturer in Further Education in Inner London for over 30 years. She worked with students aged 16 – 85, teaching on a variety of courses, including craft apprenticeships, literacy and numeracy, vocational qualifications and Access to Higher Education.

Maggie is passionate about equality, inclusion and lifelong learning. Having left school aged fifteen, she has benefitted from the life-changing opportunities that can only come from post-school, adult education.

She believes that adult education provides an essential gateway for people of all ages and backgrounds to fulfil their full potential and that WAES is integral in this important process – providing opportunities for every Westminster resident, whether it be vital language skills for new arrivals, vocational training and job opportunities for our young people or life enhancing art classes for our older residents.

As an elected Westminster City Councillor for the last seven years, Maggie will bring her skills of advocating for residents and problem solving. She will also bring her strong communication, decision making and organisational skills as a committee chair and member of several council committees.

Maggie is an avid reader and enjoys film and theatre visits.
