After completing my YTS course at the Sternberg centre, I joined Tescos in Borehamwood and worked there for 30 years. I worked in various departments including the staff restaurant which I thoroughly enjoyed. I joined WAES, so that I could learn, and do things I had not done before.
I have enjoyed cooking with Lara who was very motivational and developed my grocery shopping and cooking skills. I also did courses in Health Studies, Maths, English and Computers etc. More recently I have enjoyed being a part of the pop-up shop’s activities. For this we worked with clay, and this was good fun. We also made tote bags, candles, soaps and bath bombs as well. We sold the products we made and raised money for the college. My teacher was great; Alia is a fantastic teacher she was kind and helpful.
My greatest achievement at WAES was being able to start all my courses and finish them as well. I have worked very hard, and it has paid off as I have received a Learner of the Year award, of which I am very proud.
Attending WAES has enhanced my work skills, which has helped with my volunteering at the British Heart Foundation, and to gain a new job at a hospital in London. To any new students I would say WAES is a great place to go to, you would do things you have never done before, and you would learn a lot of great things.
The staff are fantastic, helpful, and kind, and they will give you the tools you need to make it work. You will have a lot of fun as well.
