What is the course about?
This AutoCAD beginner course is designed to help you gain a comprehensive understanding of the software and develop the skills you need to create 2D drawings. Over the duration of the course, you will learn how to navigate the AutoCAD interface, create basic geometry, use drawing aids and tools, organize your drawings and work with layouts.
Please note, this is a WAES certified course, and will allow you to progress onto our Level 2 AutoCAD and introduce you to the technical skills on our Level 3 Certificate in Digital Product Design course.
The course is for beginners in AutoCAD, or if you need to brush up on your skills, or for those who need to integrate the software for work, such as interior or product designers. You must know how to use a computer and move files around the system to take this course.
You should have a basic understanding of the English language and be able to follow simple verbal instructions and be able to read handouts and health and safety information. You should be able to use numbers to do simple measurements and calculations, as well as have an understanding of ratios and scale. You will be expected to participate in group discussions and tutorials.

This course will cover the fundamental principles and techniques required to create accurate and professional-looking drawings. With practical examples and exercises, you will learn how to create, edit, and manipulate drawings in a step-by-step manner. The course includes an introduction to AutoCAD’s features such as line types, layers, and annotation tools. You will also learn how to plot, print, and publish your drawings.
You will be taught using a range of techniques including workshops, short lectures, demonstrations, and by completing practical exercises. Brand new Windows computers with double screens are provided for each student. Student preparation and homework outside class is encouraged. Notes will be provided digitally. At the end of the course learners will assess their individual progress and progression with the tutor.
A pen or pencil and notebook for taking notes. Your computer will need to be able to download and run the AutoCAD 2024 trial, and this course is best when using a mouse instead of a trackpad. Your computer will need to meet the following requirements:
