What is the course about?
Level 1 in Solar Photovoltaic aims to provide you with a foundational understanding of solar energy, the environmental benefits, its application and its potential of transforming the solar energy into electricity. As the demand for sustainable energy grows, understanding solar energy and solar systems is extremely important in order to contribute to a sustainable future that is powered by the sun.

This course is designed for anyone who is passionate about sustainable energy solutions and is looking to learn about renewable energy and solar systems.
You don’t need to have previous experience, but you need to have Level 1 English or above. You need be able to understand and follow simple verbal instructions.
This course covers the principles of solar energy and how it is harnessed from the sun. You will get to learn the history of solar panel, different types of solar technologies, the benefits and challenges of solar energy. The topics that will be covered during the course are:
- Introduction to Solar Energy- Solar PV systems
- Solar Components
- ON-GRID and OFF-GRID systems
- Solar Design
- Certificates for Solar PV system, MCS Certificate, G98 and G99< br> - Application of Solar PV technologies
You will be taught using a range of techniques including short lectures, workshops, demonstrations, and by completing multiple choice exam.
A pen or pencil and notebook for taking notes.
- Understand the basics of Solar Energy
- You will be able to differentiate the different types of solar systems
- You will be able to measure virtually a roof and design a solar system
- You will know how to register a solar PV system with the National Grid and the energy supplier
- You will be able to differentiate the G98 and G99
- You will be able to create an MCS certificate < br>
Learners may progress to working in the solar industry if they already have a trade qualification or progress onto other green skills courses.
