What is the course about?
The Green Live Learning Lab is about using your local area to learn about sustainability. We will learn how we can help the environment through changing how we live in our homes, and we will visit local sites to see examples of this.
This is a non-qualification course, and you do not require any particular skills, experience or prior qualifications. Sessions are suitable for Entry level ESOL learners and parents with pre-school children as we don’t want anyone to miss out. Please note that the sessions will involve site visits so are not only classroom based.
The course covers topics relating to sustainable living, and specifically low carbon technology and renewable energy. We will look at new technologies for powering homes, such as solar panels, and saving energy. We will also learn vocabulary to talk about climate change, sustainability and low carbon technology, with confidence.
There will be four sessions with classroom input and a site visit, and a fifth session to reflect on what you have learned and think about how you can take the ideas forward in your own life. There is no assessment for this course.
There is no equipment necessary but you might want to make your own notes so bring a pen and paper.
By the end of the course you will understand the changes that we need to make to how we power our homes, for example solar panels and heat pumps, and the lifestyle changes that will make us more sustainable. You will feel more confident to understand and discuss sustainability, low carbon technology and renewable energy and will know how to be more energy efficient in your day to day life
If you would like to learn more about the topic, and gain qualifications, you can progress on to the courses at WAES' Green Skills Innovation Centre, for example the Level 1 Award in Energy Efficiency and Sustainability, which starts in January 2025.
