What is the course about?
The main purpose of the VTCT Level 1 Award in Hair and Beauty Skills (VRQ) is to enable you to develop hair and beauty skills, techniques and knowledge, which will prepare you to progress to the next level of vocational learning. All the units in this qualification directly prepare you for further study in the hair and beauty sector.All units in this qualification have been designed as a foundation for further study both in the hair and beauty sector and more broadly. The qualification includes one main unit in Create a Hair and Beauty Image using colour. You have the opportunity to develop your skills and abilities further by undertaking one optional unit which will be agreed with the Tutor at the start of your course. You will also have the choice to develop your knowledge and understanding of relevant hair and beauty products, health and safety, customer services, designing retail display areas and the hair and beauty sector.
You do not need to have any previous experience in Hair or Make-up but you do need have at least Entry 3 Functional Skills in English and Maths. You will also need to have basic IT skills.
This qualification will enable learners to develop the practical hair and beauty skills and techniques required to create a total look using colour.You will Create a hair and beauty image using colour as this main unit, and there will be another unit you will need to cover, which will be agreed when you start the course.
The course will be taught through a blend of practical work, demonstrations and theory classes delivered on site in class. You will build a portfolio of evidence which will be assessed in order to demonstrate your competence and gain your qualification. This course is awarded at Pass, Merit or Distinction.
Learners on a low income or in receipt of applicable benefits will not be required to pay a fee. You will need regular access to a computer or laptop and reliable internet service to complete this course. Once enrolled, learners will be able to download a free copy of Microsoft Office and will be given access to Microsoft office 365.
Create a hair and beauty image using colour which can include styling, colouring and client consultation. Understand about Heath and Safety and Professional Appearance.
Upon successful completion of this course you may have the opportunity to progress to the Level 1 Diploma in an Introduction to the Hair and Beauty Sector, the Level 2 Hairdressing and Barbering course or a Level 2 Make up course.
