What is the course about?
The VTCT Level 2 Diploma in Women’s Hairdressing is a qualification that has been specifically designed to develop your practical skills in; the creative art of cutting or dressing women’s hair, how to provide effective shampooing and conditioning services, the artistic skill of colouring and lightening hair and how to provide a good consultation service for your clients. To further enhance your practical skills you will have the opportunity to choose from the following units; how to create a hair and beauty image, plaiting and twisting hair, colouring hair using semi and temporary colour, style and finish African type hair, displaying stock or promoting products and services to clients and the opportunity of working on a salon reception. Underpinning this qualification you will develop a sound knowledge and understanding of each unit including health and safety and what it is like to work in the hairdressing industry. The purpose of this qualification is to develop your practical skills to a high level of occupational ability to enable you to perform your own salon services. The VTCT Level 2 Certificate in Barbering is a qualification that has been specifically designed to develop your practical skills in; the creative art of cutting men’s hair, the specialist work of cutting facial hair and how to offer a good consultation service for clients. Underpinning this qualification you will develop a sound knowledge of health and safety whilst working in the barbering industry. You will also develop a knowledge and understanding of the practical skills learned throughout this qualification. The purpose of this qualification is to develop your practical skills to a high level of occupational ability to enable you to perform your own salon services.
This is a Level 2 course. You should have a Level 1 in women's hairdressing or equivalent experience. This course requires an interview for acceptance so any queries you have can be addressed. You should also have level 1 English and maths and basic IT skills. This course will require work on your part, such as homework and you being able to bring Models for practical tasks.

The course will be taught through a blend of practical work, demonstrations and theory classes delivered on site in class and on line. Learners will work on live models and training heads. You will sit exams to assess your theory knowledge and build a portfolio of evidence which will be assessed in order to demonstrate your competence and gain your qualification. You will need access to reliable internet and the use of a PC or laptop in order to attend the online sessions. You will receive regular homework to increase your skills and knowledge. You will have regular reviews and be set targets. This will keep you on track so you achieve this qualification.
Learners are expected to provide their own kit of brushes, combs and scissors if not eligible for Bursary support. Your tutor can advise you on this in week 1 about the kit you will need to purchase. There maybe some printing cost.
You will have professional skills which include client consultation, shampoo and conditioning, different cutting techniques, styling and dressing techniques, colouring and perming, Health and safety, and salon practices within the industry. You should be in the position of junior stylist. If you choose to, You will progress to a level 3 Hairdressing qualification, if you were punctual, with good attendance and a good report from Level 2.
Upon successful completion of this course you can go directly into employment in the hairdressing industry as a junior stylist or progress onto the Level 3 Diploma in Women's Hairdressing.
