What is the course about?
The VTCT Level 3 Diploma in Women’s Hairdressing is a qualification that has been specifically designed to develop your practical skills to an advanced level through a variety of techniques in the following units; the creative art of cutting women’s hair, the artistic skill of colouring, imaginative dexterity of styling and dressing hair, and how to provide effective consultation support for colleagues. Underpinning this qualification you will develop a sound knowledge of monitoring health and safety whilst working in the hairdressing industry. You will also develop a knowledge and understanding of the practical skills learned throughout this qualification. Please note that this course is only funded by the GLA for learnrs who live in Greater London.
This is a Level 3 course. Ideally learners need to have GCSE Grade A-C (5-9) or Level 2 Functional skills in English and Maths. Additionally, you should have at least basic digital IT skills. You will need to have achieved a Level 2 hairdressing course and ideally you will have a placement in a salon or have or had some work experience in the industry.
- Promote and sell products and services to clients.
- Monitor and maintain health and safety practices in the salon.
- Cut women’s hair to create a variety of looks.
- Style and dress hair in a variety of looks.
- Provide hairdressing consultation support for colleagues.
- Colour hair in a variety of looks.
- Provide bridal hairstyling services.
- Perform hair colour correction.
The course will be taught through a blend of practical work, demonstrations and theory classes delivered on site in class and on line. You will sit exams to assess your theory knowledge and build a portfolio of evidence which will be assessed in order to demonstrate your competence and gain your qualification.
Learners on a low income or in receipt of applicable benefits will not be required to pay a fee. You will need regular access to a computer or laptop and reliable internet service to complete this course. Once enrolled, learners will be able to download a free copy of Microsoft Office and will be given access to Microsoft office 365.Learners are expected to provide their own kit of brushes, combs and scissors unless you are eligible for bursary support. Your tutor can advise you on in week 1 about the kit you will need to purchase. Hairdressing products are included as part of the course.
You will have the skills necessary to work as a hairdresser for women. You will have experience in different cutting, styling and colouring techniques being able to combine techniques to create advanced looks. You will have budgeting and planning knowledge and the skills to work in a salon or become self-employed.
Upon successful completion of this course you can you will have the advanced skills which will enable you to consider working in the Hairdressing industry in a hair salon in various areas such as the high street, spas or department stores. Alternatively, you will have the skills to set up as a self-employed hairdresser.This qualification may lead directly into employment in the hairdressing industry a senior hairdresser, a salon manager or to work as an independent hairdresser.
