What is the course about?
The VTCT Level 3 Diploma in Women’s Hairdressing is a qualification that has been specifically designed to develop your practical skills to an advanced level through a variety of techniques in the following units; the creative art of cutting women’s hair, the artistic skill of colouring, imaginative dexterity of styling and dressing hair, and how to provide effective consultation support for colleagues. To develop your skills further you will also be given the opportunity to gain extra units such as bridal hairstyling or technical colour correction. Underpinning this qualification you will develop a sound knowledge of monitoring health and safety whilst working in the hairdressing industry. You will also develop a knowledge and understanding of the practical skills learned throughout this qualification.
This is a Level 3 course so you will need to have achieved a level 2 hairdressing course. Acceptance onto the course is through application and interview only. Ideally you will have a placement in a salon or have work experience in the industry. You will need to have a level 2 in English and have good IT skills.

The course will be taught through a blend of practical work, demonstrations and theory classes delivered on site in class and on line. You will sit exams to assess your theory knowledge and build a portfolio of evidence which will be assessed in order to demonstrate your competence and gain your qualification. You will need access to reliable internet and the use of a PC or laptop in order to attend any online sessions.
Learners are expected to provide their own kit of brushes, combs and scissors unless you are eligible for bursary support. Your tutor can advise you on in week 1 about the kit you will need to purchase. Hairdressing products are included as part of the course.
You will have the skills necessary to work as a hairdresser for women. You will have experience in different cutting, styling and colouring techniques being able to combine techniques to create advanced looks. You will have budgeting and planning knowledge and the skills to work in a salon or become self-employed.
Upon successful completion of this course you can you will have the advanced skills which will enable you to consider working in the Hairdressing industry in a hair salon in various areas such as the high street, spas or department stores. Alternatively, you will have the skills to set up as a self-employed hairdresser.
