On Tuesday 15th October, we proudly commemorated the 5th anniversary of the Dance Westminster Grand Final at Porchester Hall. a pioneering initiative designed to promote physical activity and self-expression among disabled individuals aged 10 and above. This ground-breaking collaboration between Westminster City Council and Step Change Studios, an acclaimed and award-winning dance company, strives to make dance more accessible to all members of the community, regardless of physical ability.
Through this initiative, participants benefit from a series of dance workshops, offering them the opportunity to immerse themselves in an inclusive, dynamic environment while mastering choreographed routines. The process culminates in a competitive yet supportive event, the Dance Westminster Grand Final. The finalists are chosen after a series of workshops and auditions led by Step Change Studios, celebrating the participants’ progress and dedication to their craft.
This initiative is more than just a dance competition; it is a powerful platform for community engagement, allowing participants to demonstrate their commitment to physical activity and artistic expression. It also serves as an essential moment for the community to unite in support and celebration of diverse abilities.
We are particularly proud to acknowledge the involvement of our Hair & Media Make-up learners, who had the distinguished honour of being invited to contribute to the Dance Westminster Competition. Their knowledge in styling and makeup helped elevate the participants’ on-stage presence, adding a touch of glamour and professionalism that made the evening even more extraordinary. The efforts of these learners exemplify the importance of collaboration in making such inclusive events both memorable and empowering for all involved.
