WAES Principal Arinola Edeh Awarded CBE

We are delighted to announce that the Westminster Adult Education Service (WAES) Principal, Arinola Edeh, has been named a Commander of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (CBE), in the King’s Birthday Honours List for 2024. The honour recognises contributions to the arts and sciences, work with charitable and welfare organizations, and public service, and Arinola has been honoured for her services to adult education.

Arinola has served as the Principal of WAES since April 2017, following five years as Deputy Principal, and has worked in the public sector for over 30 years. During her tenure, WAES has been rated Good by Ofsted in 2022, with Outstanding elements, with its Lisson Grove nursery rated Good in 2022 and its Pimlico nursery rated Outstanding in 2023.

She really values the difference and challenge that working as a leader within a local authority brings to the education and skills landscape, with the ability to leverage other services in holistically meeting people’s wider needs and reach directly into local communities. Arinola had the following words to say in reaction the news:

I am deeply moved and honoured to be recognised for my contributions to adult education. It is a testament to the unwavering commitment and dedication of the incredible staff who work tirelessly in our local authority adult education services, breaking down barriers to ensure equal access to learning for our residents and their families. It also highlights the exceptional efforts of a sector dedicated to empowering learners to gain the skills needed to live full and productive lives. I am truly humbled and share this honour with all my colleagues and all our inspirational learners.
